Discover a treasure trove of local history with our “Local Newspaper Photo Collection”— a large set of 71 scrapbooks generously donated by Hauraki Publishers, the creators of local newspapers such as Thames Star, Hauraki Herald, Waihi Gazette, Paeroa Star, Thames Valley Farmer, Mercury Bay Sun, and Peninsula Play. The scrapbooks house the original photographs that once graced their pages.
Dating back to 1961, the newspapers and photos provide a perspective of life at the time from national events to births, school achievements and events.

We have digitised almost every page of these historic scrapbooks. Our dedicated team is currently undertaking the colossal task of indexing every person, place, and event featured within both the newspapers and the scrapbooks.
